- This study discursively analyzes the conceptions of democracy of the AKP which
identifies itself as “conservative democrat” and of the CHP which declares itself as “social
democrat” in comparative perspective. Several models of democracy are taken into account
so as to understand and analyze the notions of democracy of both parties. Setting out from
the parties’ programmes, the discourses of both parties are examined in terms of liberal,
participatory, majoritarian, deliberative and radical democracy theories. In this context,
both AKP and CHP both converge and diverge at the level of democratic discourse.
