    - Η πρώτη γραφή ξεκίνησε στη Bιέννη το καλοκαίρι του 1922 και τελείωσε στο Bερολίνο περί τις αρχές του 1923. Στη μορφή αυτή δημοσιεύεται στο περ. Αναγέννηση του Δημ. Γληνού. Το 1928, ο Καζαντζάκης επεξεργάζεται εκ νέου το κείμενο και προσθέτει ένα τελευταίο κεφάλαιο με τίτλο «Σιγή». Ακολούθησαν κι άλλες επεξεργασίες μέχρι το 1944, οπότε γράφει στον Πρεβελάκη ότι τη θεωρεί πλέον οριστικά διορθωμένη.
    - The first writing began in Vienna in the summer of 1922 and ended in Berlin around the beginning of 1923. In this form it is published in the period Renaissance of Dim. Γληνού. In 1928, Kazantzakis reworked the text and added a final chapter entitled "Silence". Other elaborations followed until 1944, when he wrote to Prevelakis that he now considered it permanently corrected.
