The aim of this study is to evaluate the professional special-field competencies of all the secondary school, lycee and vocational school music teachers. The study group of the research consisted of 55 music teachers serving at the schools subordinated to the Ministry of National Education during the spring semester of the 2010-2011 academic year. The statistical analysis of the data obtained through the study revealed that the age and the gender of the music teachers do not show significant differences with regard to special-field competencies. Furthermore, it has also been established that the professional special-field competency perceptions of the music teachers are, in general, at an adequate level. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
